Summer learning journey.

Hello there bloggers! This week an amazing person called Megan came to teach us about something called " Summer learning journey ". This is an activity that we do in the holidays to keep our knowledge in these 6 weeks. Megan said tat the competition does not start until the 18 of December, but that we can do the last years learning journey. There are many activities on the site, but I picked "choose a destination". For this, you need to pick a country and write three facts about it. The country I picked was the United Arab emirates. Here are 3 facts about this country:
1. Petrol is cheap and easy to come by. In fact, you get FREE petrol worth a Dirham ( 1 Dh = 0.27 $ = 17 Rs) if you buy a Snickers bar. Not kidding.

2. The Palm islands and The World, in Dubai are among the largest man-made islands in the world. These islands added nearly 500 kms to Dubai's coastline.










3. Dubai's Burj-Al-Arab is one of the most luxurious and most beautiful hotels in the world. It is the third tallest hotel in the world.

What I have learnt: I have learnt amazing facts about U.A.E.

Favourite thing I did at school.

Hello there world. This blog post is about my favourite moment in school, so cheer up😎! One of my favourite things I liked this year was badminton. Badminton is a sport that is like tennis and volleyball. I really liked it because we did a lot of competitions in this sport. Here are some photos of when we were there:

Another thing I liked about the school year was the Gala day. As you know I already wrote about it but I will still put some photos on. The dancing was great, lots of people came, and we earned enough money to make a new playground!

Hello there blogging world, in the past 2 weeks we have been asked to complete a slide about the Waiowhai Primary gala day That was held 2 weeks ago. The slide show we did was about thinking hats🎩, which is when you describe different emotions and what you did on the day. Ohhh, I forgot to tell you! In the gala day we earned $13,400. Gala day preparations.

Hello there bloggers! How's your day? In the last couple of weeks we have been working on Soap For our school gala coming up. Just before we proceed, we are raising money for making a new playground for the juniors, since they don't have a playground anymore. Yes, our class made soap for the gala. We got in groups and picked a soap we liked to make. We chose goats milk soap. The process was super easy. We first microwaved some goats milk and glycerin. After that we put together the goats milk and glycerine. Then we added some essence to add a smell.
We mixed for a while and added them to silicone moulds. If you want to go to the gala you're more than welcome! Here are some photos of the soap we (Waitemata) have made:





We also made ads. Ads to attract people to our school gala. We first had to plan it out on a small paper, then once the teacher was convinced, we draw it on the BIG PAPER! Yes, it is really that big. After we drew everything, we used a permanent marker to outline. After all that work, we still need to colour with pastel. UUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Then, at last we would show the teacher. What I liked about it: I liked that we were doing this for the Juniors, as we were helping them earn some money. What I didn't like: Pastel covering my hands with colours!!!

My math journey.

Hello there bloggers! hows your day? In the past week our amazing teacher (Mr Ross) gave us a task about maths budgeting. He explained that you are in a journey around New Zealand and you have to try spend less than $500 each day. Your trip is 11 days long. When we started this I was so excited. He said sometimes you can sleep in a hotel or a camper van if you hired one. You also had to do activities every single day. In one of these slides it says to solve how much money you will spend on petrol and how long does it take to get there. Here is an example of my petrol cost. It tells you how many km it takes to get there:

This was quite easy because Mr Ross said we could use a calculator!Hehe!








The last slide was the hardest, adding up all the numbers together. It took me about 3 mins to solve!

What I have learnt: I have learnt which hotels were expensive and what camper vans are cheaper. Maybe I'll go to a trip and remeber these two things!

Magical world of crazy science!

🍩Hello there Bloggers. There is this amazing person who came to visit our school. You know who it is? It's Richard and Robyn!! They do science experiments and magic tricks. It was so cool! They came to visit our school🏫, and showed us some crazy science. We learnt what chemistry was, chemistry is the study of chemicals. Chemicals power things like rockets. Chemical reactions happen when you mix 2 things or more together, and changes the state. Water is the only substance on earth that exists in liquid, solid and gas. We also learnt about physics. Richard got a hair dryer and a ping pong ball. he turned the hair dryer on and put the ball on top of it. The ball started to float. He told us that when there is fast moving air it goes up. Gravity pulls it down, that's why it stays in the middle, floating. he also did a little firework. He used some grain and fire. He put a tiny bit of the grain while the fire was on, and then there was this great amazing flame of fire! The rest will be in the videos:

Camp poem!!

Hello there Bloggers!✋How's your day? 2 weeks ago, we were doing a poem🖋 about camp⛺. It had to rhyme, which made it a bit harder. New sport in school!😃

Hey there bloggers! There is a new sport in school🏫, Taekwando! Every Thursday we do Taekwondo in the school hall after morning tea. Taekwondo is quite fun. This week we have learnt to to the scissors kick✂. It is when you lift one leg and kick with the other. I was pretty bad at it, as it was my first time trying. Musical.ly party  Trouble…

At last, Saturday came back. No more school for 2 weeks, Because the holidays have started.  I ran to the kitchen and took a look at my phone. I could not believe my phone is 100% charged today. I start making breakfast for mum and me, before dad can come home from work.

At 7.30am Dad came back from work. We had breakfast until 8.00am. The  most boring thing to do after every meal is doing the dishes. After 10 minutes I took my phone with me to the living room. I started playing “Flappy Bird” until somebody called me. Somebody I did not call for a month or two. That somebody is my best friend Salma. “Hello Serene” she started. “ I want to tell you something that will happen today.” When she said those words I knew it was something important. Every time she says that, it only means one thing, and one thing only. “Can I guess what you are going to say?’’ I asked her. “ Sure thing. What do you think it is?’’ Salma said.

“ Are you going to hold another slumber party at your house?’’ I asked. “ How did you know that?’’ She asked in a weird voice. “Easy, Whenever you say ‘ I want to tell you something that will happen today.’ I know it is either a sleepover or a slumber party.” I told her. I asked her what I need to bring for the party. “Tooth brush, Tooth paste, PJ and your phone” She answered “ Why do I need to bring my phone?’’ I asked “You'll know soon enough. At 3.00pm🕒 come to my house.” It was like she was telling me clues about a mystery or something. After that long call I continued playing “Floppy Bird”. I was thinking about what Salma said in her call.

At 2.30 pm I start packing my stuff  into my bag for the slumber party at Salmas house. I ask Mum If I can go to Salmas slumber party. The answer made me happy. She said yes. Before I walked to the door I realise something. I forgot something. I know I did. Luckily I did not go to the car yet, so I had 30 minutes left to find the thing I forgot. I look in my bag “My phone!” I remembered Where I put my Phone. In the coffee table next to the couch. I ran to get it. I had everything I needed. It was 20 minutes to 3.00 pm.( Well, not exactly because I did not have a watch with me). I told mum to drive me to Salmas house. When I arrived there it was exactly 3.00pm. As I rang the doorbell I heard somebody running down the stairs. A second later the door opened. A big smile was staring at me. “ Hello there Serene!” Screamed Salma. This was the first time I heard Salma screaming. She was leading me to her room. “ I already know where your room is Salma. I’m not new here.” I told her. “ But I changed the room and the style. You’ll be amazed.” She answered.

I was actually amazed by her room. I didn’t know she could change the Style. I can't believe it. Her bed was twice as big. She at last had her walls decorated. She had a new Duvet that was Dark blue with some white and black. It was like all the colors filled the sky and made it like a fantastic and funny cloud day. All the other girls came. After they came we had a little snack,Sausage sandwiches and ice blocks. 20 minutes passed. We went to her room and took a look at it again. I was still amazed. Salma said to take a space in the room. I chose the bed. Roa’a was with me on the bed. Salma began with an important announcement. “ Today I made a meeting To get you all for something important, it is not an ordinary party, it is a music.aly party.”

We start using music.aly in the room. I click a funny song called “ I see you” and a sound blasts up. I hear the room being filled with laughter. Roa’a suddenly presses a new song, But rather than a song blasting out, a devil came out. A loud scream came out of everybody’s mouth. Salma stands up and goes to the devil. “ Why in the world are you here?” asked Salma. Not a answer came back. The devil pushes Salma so hard that she smacks into the lamp that we were using. We can not see anything in front of us. Maybe it’s me that's not seeing anything. Probably because Roa’a is on top of me, trying to hide away. I try to push Roa’a away from me, so when I push her I see something. The something is the shiny colour of blood on a big silver meat cutting knife.

It was so silent and awkward, but a loud scream broke the silence. I see Salma holding a lighter so we could see. I hear someone running to the room. The door opens and we see Salma’s mother. Salma’s mother see’s the devil. She pushes him, well, She tries to push him but her hands always goes through the devil's body. 10 seconds later, we find her
fainted. Salma takes her phone, trying to call the police. But because she was too fast she accidentally clicked on the music.aly app and clicked a song. That song was the song I put on. We hear a loud scream coming from the devil. We see him shrinking. Before he was shrinking he was about 6.50 feet tall. Now he is the size of me. Some seconds later he is as big as my baby niece. After a little while, we do not see anything called devil. I remember the blood I saw on the knife but I find every one safe and not hurt. I see the knife again on the floor and find it a fake knife, splattered with tomato sauce. “It’s a trick from the boys friends, we’ll take them back next time.” I said. “But what about the devil we saw?’’ asked Salma. “ It’s a trick me and you don’t know, but the boys do.” I answered her.

          The end!

What I've learnt: Iv'e learnt how to write a better narrative. Before our teacher told us how to make it better, I was bad at writing narratives(not lying)!

New buildings in school...

Hello there blogging world! In the beginning of the week, we moved into the new Te waka ako building (the canoe of learning). All last year we have been waiting to enter the classrooms. Sadly the year sixes from last year didn't have a chance to enter it but here we are, all the year sixes and fives inside the classrooms having fun. In the beginning of the week we had a ceremony to celebrate the entrance of the seniors. The MP of Mt Roskill came to cut the ribbon,  the kapa haka team did a dance and we tried out all the new furniture inside. For the past 5 days we have enjoyed being inside these amazing buildings. Matariki

Hello there followers! I'm back with a important announcement! Because Matatiki is coming, room 7 has been learning stuff about Matariki. I will tell you stuff about what I've learnt.

1. The matariki names are Tupu-a-nuku, Tupu-a-rangi, Waiti, Waita, Waipuna-a-rangi and Ururangi.

2. The reappearance of the seven Matariki stars, in late May or early June, signals the beginning of the Māori New Year.

3. Matariki is a star cluster, not a constellation

4. For some iwi, Matariki is connected to the creation story of Ranginui and Papatūānuku.

5. Matariki was used by the crews of voyaging waka.

6. There are many different names of Matariki. In English, it is called the Pleiades (its ancient Greek name) or the Seven Sisters. The Hawaiian name is Makali‘i, or ‘eyes of royalty’, and in Japan it is Subaru, meaning ‘gathered together’.

7.Compared with other star clusters, Matariki is close to Earth – but it’s still 440 light years away. If you drove there in a car at a speed of 100 kilometres an hour, you would arrive in 4.8 billion years!

8. The Matariki star cluster. The two meanings of Matariki both refer to stars: mata ariki (eyes of god) and mata riki (little eyes).

Hello there Bloggers! In the beginning of week 8, Mr Ross ( which is the best teacher in school ) made us do this thing that is called story starters of creative writing. A story starter is when you have a sentence and then you continue with your own sentences. Mr Ross chose these sentences to start with, It was a dark and stormy night, But mum is not, I woke in a sweat and No.This is my story starter that I made. FRIDAY FUN DAY!!!!!!!!

Our amazing school has organize a day where all the families come and have a fun day with their children. This day was held on a Friday. The school wanted to do it on Cornwallis beach but we found out that the water was polluted, so instead we did it at school. The day included bush walk, a clean up at the beach, a swim at the school pool and much more activities. There were 4 groups, Pokeko, Kea, Tui, Ruru. The school said that we had to wear our house team colour. In the beginning, our team went for a bush walk. The bush walk took about 15 Min. Then in our way, we found a park.

So for almost a hour we played there. After playing in the Waikowhai park, we went down to the beach and we all joined in for a clean in the beach.  
The beach had lots of glass in it. After the clean up, we went back to school to have lunch. After having lunch, our team went to have a swim in the refreshing pool, or was it having fun on the water slide? Either of these, we had fun with the water splashing at our burning hot faces. After a few hours, we went out to do some teamwork activities. this included spider web, The jungle, water island and poisonous ship. All of these had something to do with teamwork. After all these tiring and fun stuff, we went back to our classrooms to say our goodbyes. Please feel free to comment.😇
